Thanks to our friends in other organizations, Beyond War was able to give copies of our 28-minute DVD
“Building a World Beyond War: A Roadmap for Citizens” to guests at their inaugural celebration events in Washington, DC last week.
The
All American Ball held at the Westin Washington DC Center on January 20, hosted 1500 guests with strong government, military and veteran connections, including former astronaut Buzz Aldrin and U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre (NC-7TH). After carefully vetting us and our video, they were pleased to offer the DVD, distributing all 450 copies we sent them to “very appreciative and excited” guests, many of whom asked if there was a way they could get extras to share with friends back home.
The
Progressive Democrats of America met on January 19 (MLK Day), at the popular Washington, DC gathering place Busboys and Poets, with a reception for leading members of the Black and Progressive Congressional Caucuses, including Jim McGovern (MA-3RD) and Barbara Lee (CA-9TH). Events featured prominent voices like author and radio host Thom Hartmann,
Nation journalist John Nichols, and noted activist and movement strategist Tom Hayden. They distributed all 120 copies we gave them.
Three other Inauguration and MLK Day events were interested in sharing copies of our DVD with their guests, but we were unable to complete the logistics with them in time.
The Inaugural Peace Ball, the Inauguration Action Center and Art of Change Ball, and
Rebirthing King, Rebirthing America extended warm invitations for us to participate in their events, which we would have been happy to accept if we had enough Beyond War people in the Washington, DC area to help hand out our DVD copies.
Other inaugural events that considered our DVD included the
Inaugural Praise Ball, Green Inaugural Ball, Foreign Diplomats Inaugural Ball, Junior State of America Inaugural Events, American Scholars Inaugural Ball, Be The Change Inaugural Ball, Boomer Professionals Inaugural Events, H.O.P.E. Inaugural Youth Ball, The Dream Realized Inaugural Ball, Soccer Moms for Obama Inaugural Ball, The People’s Inaugural, and
Progressive Central. People hosting these events also were exposed to Beyond War and our DVD.
As the Beyond War community grows, we hope to be able to respond more fully to these kinds of timely opportunities to participate in the life of our nation. Maybe even a
Beyond War Inaugural Ball is next?
