About me

I was active in the Beyond War movement during the 1980's and am glad to see we are back in action. My son, Ty, and I have co-authored the book Reverence for ALL Life which focuses on the life of Dr. Albert Schweitzer and his message of "reverence for life". The book also includes essays, poems and articles written by the authors and others who reflect Dr. Schweitzer's ethic of reverence. We feel the idea of "reverence for all life" is very much related to the theme of Beyond War. We are giving free copies of Reverence for ALL Life to interested readers. If you would like a copy, please send us your name and mailing address. My email address is reverence@triwest.net.

"The ethic of Reverence for Life is the ethic of Love widened into universality."--Albert Schweitzer

Hi John,
I just finished reading your book Reverence for All Life and wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it. It was inspiring and informative and well-written. I liked the mix of narrative and poetry and essay. Reading your book reminded me of my Unitarian church school class (6th grade!) when we studied Schweitzer, and that's when I became a vegetarian. Thanks again for the book.

Thanks so much John. I will let you know. I assume that Anne Milhollen has a copy too? Maybe she and Melissa and I can share our thoughts about it. Does anyone else in Eugene have it? I guess since it looks like we will have 2 or 3 copies here, we can share.

I'd like to see it too. It sounds like a good fit for us. Do you see it relatiing most closely with "the means are the ends" or "we are one"???

Rhena Schweitzer Miller

Hello Friends of Reverence for ALL Life, We are saddened to learn that Rhena Schweitzer Miller has died at the age of 90. Rhena was a guiding light for John and Ty as she enabled us to author Reverence for ALL Life, our book which focuses on the life of Dr. Albert Schweitzer and his message of "reverence for life". Rhena read and approved the material we wrote about her father and offered helpful suggestions. She also wrote a much appreciated blurb for the back cover as well as granting permiss… Continue
