In my judgement, the human species moved beyond war when it learned how, with nuclear weapons, to destroy all of life. Our collective behavior is not yet congruous with that reality. Closing the gap between our behavior and reality is our challenge.
You’re right – to have war there has to be an “other,” and Beyond War’s premise was and still is that ‘we are one on this planet.’ Beyond War does not recommend that we should ‘ignore’ an enemy, rather that we should not ‘preoccupy ourselves' with an enemy. Doing so would result in each individual’s being unable either to see their own reflection in the mirror you speak of, or to recognize that ending war dors begin with each of us.
Enjoy exploring the Beyond War website to see how the principles are being expressed today. As well, know that a book – “Living Beyond War” by Winslow Myers - will be published this spring and should be available at Amazon.com. From what I know, it is a wonderful and comprehensive explication of the essence of Beyond War.
