I am not sure if anyone has been following the nuclear trade developments with India, but I think it is all very frightening. They have been following the story fairly frequently on Democracy Now and I have been surprised to hear so little about it on other news stations. In my opinion this is because everyone is focusing on the economic crisis to the detriment of a lot of other news. I was talking with my partner about this story and he said something I found quite interesting. He said that he thinks people have forgotten the power of nuclear bombs. They really do seem a thing of the past. It seems like now they are more for threatening rather than for using. But is this really the case? Why would the US be looking to start trade with India when, significantly, the US is also increasingly attacking Pakistan? I am curious what you all think about this. It has been weighing quite heavily on my mind.
For anyone who might not be familiar with the US/India nuclear trade deal Melissa is talking about, here is a great interview that Bob Dodge found: http://bloggingheads.tv/diavlogs/15049
Thank you so much! That was a really informative interview. I think the most frightening aspect of this whole thing is that it really seems like people are not talking about it. If we don't talk about it who knows what could get started without anyone really being aware. Thanks again.
