Beyond War

Given Iran's stated intentions to acquire nuclear weapons and to destroy Israel, what would be Beyond War's stance on a potential Israeli tactical strike to destroy Iran's nuclear weapons facilities (taking into account a conscientious effort by the Israelis to avoid civilian casualties) if and when Iran developed such capabilities?

I thought Leonora raised a most important point when she wrote about pursuing reconciliation without delay. So many are foreseeing the results of continuing the way we are. We have to learn to talk to Iran and Israel on their terms. If they are pressured, they must not be humiliated or bullied. Can we speak with firmness without being perceived as hostile? If we procrastinate or wait passively for some crisis, the options may be more limited.

But Israel will never get to peace with any "tactics" of destruction. "We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means", because we can't get anywhere with a means that is inconsistent with where we want to go. If we can face this historically proven fact, we can muster our resolve to find ways that will actually work.....(and we see some of these beginning - appropriate foreign aid, non-violent conflict resolution processes, international law, and co-operation with other nations)
