Beyond War

This book was a very interesting read. It covers all the basic information that one would need to understand how we trace our genetics back to a single ancestry. Starting off with a basic discussion of evolution and the history of Charles Darwin it then takes a turn for the more complicated with a discussion of the genetic Eve and Adam. From there this book follows the routes of dispersal out of Africa based on genetic evidence with some linguistic and archeological evidence as well. This books does much for the idea that there are no different races within Homo sapiens. The logic of this book is purely scientific and easy to understand i would consider it a slow and difficult read for those who may not have an interest in this subject. Spencer Wells writes in a way that makes genetics accessible to everyone and it would be understandable for anyone. This book really highlights the we are one on this planet principal from beyond war. Showing that we all originated from one place is an important step in realizing just how related we all are.
1) Does we are on have more meaning with the knowledge that we all share a common African Ancestor?
2) What do you think about the arguments of Carelton Coon?
3) Do you think that this book would change peoples minds about who their enemies are?
4) What does race mean to you and how does this affect how we think of other people?
5) How accessible was this book to you? Did the information presented here put you off in any way?
