Dr. Robert Dodge, Board Member of Beyond War, will present the Introduction to Beyond War, “Building a World Beyond War: A Roadmap for Citizens”
A screening of “The Power of Forgiveness” will follow. “The Power of Forgiveness” exemplifies one of the guiding principles of Beyond War: The means are the ends in the making. The film explores recent research into the psychological and physical effects of forgiveness on individuals and within relationships under a wide variety of conditions. This includes feature stories on the Amish, the 9/11 tragedy and peace-building in Northern Ireland, along with interviews with renowned Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, best-selling authors Thomas Moore and Marianne Williamson and others. Through character-driven stories the film shows the role forgiveness can play in alleviating anger and grief and the physical, mental and spiritual benefits that come with it.
This presentation is cosponsored by Beyond War, Global Exchange Ventura County Supporters and ACLU Ventura County Chapter. This event is offered in coordination with the Beyond War public library display on exhibit at the Thousand Oaks Library during the month of September.

Dr. Robert Dodge, Board Member of Beyond War (www.beyondwar.org)
will introduce the short video
“Building a World Beyond War: A Roadmap for Citizens”
which presents a dynamic overview of Beyond War’s transformational ideas. It inspires us to look more deeply at shared assumptions that must shift in order for us to accept differences and adopt practical, nonviolent alternatives to war.

The books in the library display were chosen from many suggested by Beyond War members. After review by Beyond War members and students in the Portland State University Beyond War Capstone class, a Core List of books and films was selected as materials every library should own to help build a world beyond war.
