Event Description

LA Area Nuclear Disarmament Coalition Conference
Coming Up in September

Save the Date: Saturday, Sept 6, 2008 1 pm to 5pm in at St Bede's Episcopal Church in Mar Vista. Nuclear Age Peace Foundation president David Krieger will be the introductory speaker at the "Building a Local Nuclear Disarmament Coalition with Global Aims" conference hosted by the Unity-and-Diversity General Assembly. Other confirmed speakers include Tad Daley and Marcy Winograd.

Los Angeles is a world class city with tremendous resources. A smartly designed program to build a local coalition, replicate the coalition in other great world cities, and then link all the coalitions in a coordinated world Nuclear Disarmament League would turn up the volume on Nuclear Disarmament everywhere. The timing is right with presidential candidate Obama calling for nuclear disarmament and even the realist wing of the right saying we need to move on the issue.

The intent is to have a working conference. Priorities for the coalition will be developed in breakout sessions and voted on. The key result will be for existing organizations to get to know each other better and take concrete steps towards making the coalition a reality.
